Progress Report April 20, 2017

1. Peabody emerges from Bankruptcy:  NBCC member Peabody Energy has emerged from its bankruptcy status and has returned to the New York Stock Exchange (Symbol: BTU) and is gaining value daily.  The last administration attempted to break the coal industry but the new administration has reversed that job killing, wicked activity.  Congratulations Peabody!!!!

2.  Dream Big Awards CelebrationSave the date for the Dream Big Awards which is part of the 2017 Small Business Summit presented by MetLife and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.  The 10th Annual Event will take place here in Washington, DC September 10 – 12, 2017.

3.  Big Growth in FloridaThe Manatee County Black Chamber of Commerce has outgrown itself.  It has annexed neighboring Sarasota County.  Thus, we now have the Manasota Black Chamber of Commerce.  We congratulate Tarnisha Cliatt and her strong warriors for stepping up and expanding their advocacy.

4.  Growth in the Cannabis IndustryPlan on going to Oakland, CA and learn about one of the fastest growing industries in the nation.  Participate in the 4th Annual Cannabis Biz Summit and Expo.  Learn all there is to know about starting a retail outlet.  Scholarship applications are available!

5.  Iowa’s Governor tells Unions “No”Governor Terry Branstad has signed a law forbidding Project Labor Agreements on state funded construction projects.  This is a classic model for our members to share with their legislators and governors.  Stop discrimination in the construction industry now!  98% of our members are nonunion shops.  PLA’s are the enemy.

6.  Taming the Administrative StateIdentifying regulations that impact jobs and the economy.  A great read about the games being formed in your nation’s Capital.  This is published by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

8.  An Angel goes to HeavenWe are mourning the passing of the Matriarch of the DeBow and Stuart families.  Aurelia Jane Priscilla Stuart DeBow passed away quietly on April 14, 2017.  Mom, grandma, Aunt Jane to so many will be remembered for her 24/7 love.  God blessed her with 91 years of life on this earth.  See you in Heaven Mama DeBow!  A written tribute
